Traffic To Be Rerouted During Sewer Construction

Traffic to RIS/RTS To Be Temporarily Rerouted

The Lorain County Rural Wastewater District (LORCO) recently began construction of a sewer line in Eaton Township. We understand that they may begin construction of the sewer line on Giles Road during the next few weeks.  The construction will occur between Route 82 and a point just west of the Ross Incineration Services, Inc. and Ross Transportation Services, Inc. facility.  While construction is underway, access to the RIS/RTS facility from Route 82 will be restricted to just one lane of traffic.

Because we are concerned about the safety of our associates and our neighbors, we have discussed traffic safety issues with officials from Eaton Township and Lorain County and asked for their agreement to reroute traffic to and from the RIS/RTS facility while there is sewer construction on Giles Road.  They have agreed that it will be safer for everyone if we temporarily reroute traffic.

When the sewer construction takes place on Giles Road, traffic to and from the RIS/RTS facility will be routed on Giles Road to Durkee Road and then from Durkee Road to Butternut Ridge Road as shown on the map below.  This will enable our drivers, associates, and customers to safely access the facility from both Route 10/480 and Route 83/I-90.

For safety reasons, we are discouraging anyone from traveling on either Grafton Road or Route 57 to  Route 82 to Durkee Road as sewer construction is ongoing in this area.

Please note that this is only a temporary rerouting of traffic.  Once the sewer construction is completed, traffic will once again be directed to our normal route.

At this time, we don't have a definite date when construction will begin. We understand, however, that they will actually do sewer line construction on Giles Road in two phases, so traffic may need to be rerouted twice in the upcoming months. We are talking with both LORCO officials and representatives of Underground Utilities, the company that is doing the construction work, so that we can reroute traffic only when it is necessary.   We will have updated information on our website when we have more details on the timing of the construction work and temporary detour.

We apologize for any inconvenience that this may create for our neighbors who reside on the temporary detour route.  However, we truly believe that it is in the best interest of everyone in the area to reroute the traffic and avoid potential safety hazards during construction.  If you have any questions about this traffic issue, or any of our operations, please contact Maggie Kelch, Ross Environmental Community Relations Manager by phone at (440) 366-2076 during regular business hours (8 am - 5 pm weekdays) or by email: mailto:mkelch@rossenvironmental.com
