Associates from Ross Incineration Services, Inc. and Ross Transportation Services, Inc. received Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) award plaques and banners from representatives of the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation (BWC) Division of Safety & Hygiene in a special ceremony on Thursday, November 5th.
SHARP is a program sponsored by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). In the State of Ohio, it is administered by the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation (BWC) Division of Safety & Hygiene.
Ross Incineration (RIS) and Ross Transportation (RTS) have both met rigorous standards to achieve the certification under the SHARP program. Acceptance into SHARP is an achievement that singles a company out as a model of worksite safety and health.
RIS associates who formally accepted the award were Nick Pakosz and Bill Cosgriff, of the Corporate EH&S Department. The were joined on the stage by a number of RIS associates who attended the ceremony.
A number of RTS associates also gathered on the stage to receive the award which was formally accepted by Fred Taylor and Bill Cromling III.
Three representatives of the Ohio BWC attended the ceremony: Dr. Abe S. Al-Tarawneh, Superintendent; S. Greg Collins, Program Manager and Dave Roll, Safety & Health Consultant.
Each of them made remarks during the ceremony and emphasized the importance of participation in SHARP and what it means both in and out of the workplace.
They said that there are 210,000 eligible workplaces in the State of Ohio but only 16 of them have been certified under SHARP. Of those, two are Ross companies-which is truly an accomplishment.
Several representatives of the Ross companies also spoke at the award ceremony. Art Hargate, President and CEO of Ross Environmental served as master of ceremonies. He said the SHARP certification demonstrates that all associates are working toward accomplishing our number one priority - to become the safest Treatment, Storage & Disposal and Transportation Companies in our Industry.
Maureen M. Cromling, Chairman of the Board of the companies, congratulated all of the associates on their hard work to receive SHARP certification.
Jim Larson, VP of Plant Operations, speaking on behalf of RIS related a personal experience with a previous employer and emphasized that safety is personal and we all want to return home safely every day.
Bill Cromling III, president of RTS, thanked all of the RTS associates for their hard work to receive SHARP certification.
Finally, Jim Heimbuch, Chief Operating Officer, said that safety is not only important at work but that each associate needs to maintain the safety attitude at home as well.
