Ross Transportation Services, Inc. has been accepted as a member of the United States Environmental Protection Agency's SmartWaySM Transport Partnership program.

SmartWay is an innovative partnership of the U.S. EPA that reduces greenhouse gases and other air pollutants and improves fuel efficiency. By becoming a SmartWay Transport Partner, Ross Transportation is clearly demonstrating its commitment to environmental stewardship.  In joining SmartWay, Ross Transportation has agreed to set and strive for attainment of environmental and fuel efficiency goals within three years that improve the environment and the company's bottom line.

"Ross Transportation is joining the SmartWay Transport Partnership as part of its overall commitment to environmental sustainability.  We believe that operating as a sustainable company is good for the environment, the community and the company," said William E. Cromling, III, President of Ross Transportation Services.

The company's first step in the program was completion of the U.S. EPA's Freight Logistics Environmental and Energy Tracking (FLEET) Performance Model, which helped to quantify the environmental performance of its operations. Based on that data, the company has established environmental and fuel efficiency goals and will be working to reach them.

Ross Transportation Services, Inc. (RTS) offers a full range of transportation products and services to meet the needs of its customers.  The company helps to protect the environment and support the economy by safely and efficiently transporting hazardous waste materials for its customers to the Ross Incineration Services, Inc. facility in Grafton and to other waste treatment, storage and disposal facilities.

"As a company that is involved in the environmental services industry, we take our commitment to environmental protection seriously.  Participating in the SmartWay Transport Partnership will enable us to take that commitment a step further by utilizing the technical expertise of the U.S. EPA," Cromling added.
